  • We already have a good customs broker. Why do we need a customs consultant?

Customs duty exposure is complicated and a moving target. The CBSA routinely issues secret decisions granting duty relief such as Advanced Rulings and administrative rulings on imports. How can your customs broker know about them if they are not published? Without a knowledgeable customs consultant reviewing your imports, how will you know if your broker has missed something causing you to overpay customs duty?

  • If we approve your service, how much of my time is required and what is the disruption to my office routine?

There is very little disruption and we require almost none of your time. We can order a report from the CBSA which gives us a record of your transactions. We may ask you for descriptive literature on some of your products and occasionally we will require a sample. We can conduct the review on site at your office or you can send us the files. We will return them to you when we are done reviewing them. If the review is on site, we’ll need access to the records, a desk and access to a copier. You can go about your normal day. We will provide you with a verbal report and a written one. We file all claims from our offices.

  • How are the refunds processed?

We prefer to have the refunds mailed to our office with a copy of the Redetermination mailed to your office. We reconcile the Redeterminations with the claims and send you your portion of the refunds monthly along with our paid invoice. This makes it easier for you. You get a report and payment monthly and don’t have to worry about reconciling payments against Redeterminations against claims filed. If you prefer, the refunds can be sent directly to you and we can invoice you monthly for our fees.

    How are the refunds processed?

Typically, the refunds are mailed to you or our attorneys. We deposit the refunds in our trust account and send you your share. If the refund is mailed to you, we send you an invoice for the applicable fees.
